Winter break is a great time to relax and unwind after a hectic semester. It is nice to just have a break and not have to worry about things like exams and grades for a bit. With all that free time, it’s easy to get bored pretty fast. Here are a couple things to do during winter break that will get you ready for the next semester.
1. Revise projects
2. Update your portfolio
3. LinkedIn learning certifications
4. Making projects for fun
1. Revise projects

Ideally, you would revise work during the semester, but if there are things you
haven’t revised yet, now is a great time to do so! Revising projects from the
semester is a great thing to do during break. Take the suggestions from the
semester and implement them. Above is an example of a small revision I did for a
project in the spring. The one on the left is the final one I turned in.
2. Update portfolio

Updating your portfolio is very important. Taking suggestions from professors,
professionals, and peers and incorporating them into your portfolio is a great way
to update it. Add projects from this semester to your portfolio and try out some
mockups to elevate the look. Above is an example of using mockups for my
capstone project.
3. LinkedIn learning certificates
LinkedIn learning is a great way to learn more about the Adobe Creative Cloud
suite, Microsoft apps, and more. It’s free for students, so do it while you can! You
don’t have to do the certificate all in one sitting, you can come back to it at any
time. They can also be shown on your LinkedIn profile if you link the accounts.
These certificates can help improve your skills for next semester and beyond.
4. Making projects for fun
Making some projects for fun is a great way to pass time during the break! With
no due dates, you can work on it for a while and make sure that it is just the way
you want it. Having passion projects during the breaks is a great way to still use
the skills you’ve learned during the semester. Doing random projects that you
want and aren’t for school is a great way to just have fun and learn more about
the programs you use.
These activities keep your mind active during the break and help prepare you for the next
semester. They are great ways to improve your portfolio and skills while not in school.
