Phone

Ever since the invention of the Smartphone, mobile shopping has been on the rise. Not only has mobile shopping risen, but also, the comfortability of consumers completing transactions online. Basically, people aren’t worried to purchase through Smartphones anymore.

According to Forrester’s 2018 Retail Best Practices: Mobile Web study, smartphones will be used in over one-third—or more than $1 trillion—of total U.S. retail sales at some point in the process of buying something in 2018.

In 2012, U.S. consumers spent $7.8 billion in retail purchases on their smartphones, according to Forrester data. By 2016, this figure had grown to $60.2 billion and Forrester anticipates it will reach $93.5 billion in 2018—and $175.4 billion in 2022.

So, what does all of this mean for brands? Well, the pressure and stakes are high. Brands’ mobile websites and apps have to be top-notch in order to snag this new consumer demand. If customers’ shopping expectations aren’t met, they’ll just shop in another app or at another mobile website. It’s that simple.

Here are a few tips to help brands when creating mobile shopping content:

  • Make the app/website easy to navigate. - I can’t stress this enough. People will not wait around to figure out something that confuses them, they’ll just switch sites.

  • Personalize consumers’ experience based on location - This is as simple as showing a customer their desired product is in a store nearby!

  • Try in-store price comparisons - Show them why they’d rather choose mobile.

  • Accessible search bar and visual search capabilities. - According to App Annie’s Mobile App Retail Report, improving search capabilities is vital to brands.
