April the Giraffe

April 26, 2017

For the past few week, people have been waiting and watching for the birth of a giraffe at an animal park in Harpursville, New York.

Jordan Patch, the owner of Animal Adventures Park, has decided to livestream the event on the zoo’s Facebook page. Despite being taken down once for somebody reporting the video for being “sexually explicit,” it has been viewed over 20 million times.

That’s a lot considering all April the giraffe has done so far is walk in circles and eat hay.

To add on to the fun, the zoo has decided to have a naming contest for the new baby giraffe. Although, they won’t give it a name until it's arrived; so the world will just have to wait.

As boring as the video might be right now, this zoo’s use of live streaming is a great marketing strategy. It lets the audience really feel like they are apart of the birth without having to actually be there, which is a great relationship builder for you and your clients. The innovative choice to live stream the birth is a great publicity tool, users all over the world who have never even heard of this zoo are now talking about the expectant mother.

While it is still quite new, live streaming is becoming one of the most popular media tools used by marketing and communications professionals. If you want to know more on how to adjust to and implement live streaming, read PR Daily.
