Instagram Says Goodbye to Photos and Hello to Video

Changes are in the near future for Instagram users. According to Adam Mosseri, the CEO of Instagram, the platform will change into a video sharing app. Instagram is “no longer a photo sharing app or a square photo sharing app”. Like the video sharing app, Tik Tok, video sharing has become immensely popular for creators. It seems Instagram is leaning into this increasingly popular trend.

What to expect?

Mosseri says small changes and experiments will be done in the next several months, in the hopes of making video sharing permanent. Shopping features will become available on Instagram as well with the rise in online shopping due to the ongoing pandemic. No statement has been made on whether Instagram’s new features will go into full effect.

The Negative lash back

However, some people are discouraged by the change. Many comments on his posts were filled with hate. Many some influencers felt small business owners would hurt from this change due to the number of videos and content on the “explorer page”. “Photographers and photographs are what has made Instagram the great platform that it is “, says one commenter.

In the future

People have raised concerns whether photo sharing will denigrate all together or will another company create a platform similar to Instagram.

What do you think will happen in the future?
