Dancing With the Stars: TikTok Edition

If you have not created a TikTok account yet you may be missing out on some of the newest trends the world is obsessing over at the moment. TikTok was originally created as a platform for users to freely express themselves through a short video clip. While the platform is still used for an array of video ideas, there has been an uptick of the amount dance videos/challenges created on the platform.

Most recently, the #RenegadeChallenge went viral, stemming from a dance video created by TikTok user Jalaiah Harmon to the song “Lottery” by K Camp. The dance was picked up by popular TikTokers, and from there, thousands of others began sharing their Renegade renditions.

Another popular TikTok dance challenge is the #SavageChallenge, where users are doing a choreographed dance to Megan Thee Stallion’s song “Savage”. The dance challenge craze on TikTok also has an impact on the music industry and artist stream rates. Drake recently released a new song called “The Toosie Slide,” and he hired dancers who are popular on multiple social media platforms, including TikTok, to create a dance to the song. The influencers posted their dance snippet and after the release of the song hundreds of users fled to TikTok to try out the new dance. Other artists are also reaching out to popular TikTok dancers to promote their new hits.

TikTok seems to have taken over as the platform for dance challenges, and no one seems to be complaining. Consumers and users are enjoying it and so are artists. Celebrities are joining in on the hype as well, cough cough, Doja Cat and Jason Derulo!

Do you see TikTok losing its momentum in the future or do you think dancers will continue to choose TikTok as their creative platform?Let us know what you think!
